The marmot is a typical inhabitant of the Tatra Mountains, but until now, there was no wooden statue of marmot at Skalnaté Pleso under Lomnický štít. The client requested a modern children’s playground for kids aged 3 to 12, sensitively placed into the landscape and referring to the local fauna. Years ago, a marmot family lived near Skalnaté Pleso, and visitors from all over the world could observe them via webcam, so our architects designed the marmot as the icon of the playground. The statue is three meters high, made of a steel frame with a wooden cladding painted in color. The marmot is placed on a wooden rock, which includes climbing elements and hides a tunnel and a slide. Climbing this “rock” to the marmot enhances the incredible view of the valley. The marmot will become the hero of many memorable family photos.
The marmot play statue at Skalnaté Pleso, located near the cable car station, is just the first part of the future playground. Another adventure attraction, a bear family, will be added over time.
